A busy week at Witton Castle Lakes saw 124 visiting anglers capture 406 fish for a health average of 3.3. No big doubles this week but plenty of hard fighting fish in the 6lb to 9lb category with Garry Wilson capturing the best fish of the week a superb blue trout of 9lb.
The lakes will be stocked this Friday with 200 blue and rainbow trout. Many of our regulars have commented on the superb condition and fighting quality of this years fish. They are not your usual fat stew pond trout but fish which have been bred and developed in clear moving water which produces fit and muscular trout. Make sure you have plenty of backing on your line the next time you visit!
The 12th Darlington group’s cub section visited Witton castle lakes fishery as the first part on its introduction to fishing.None of the young cubs had ever fished before but Bishop Auckland and District Angling Club which manages the lakes was able to provide all equipment, qualified coaching and experienced anglers to ensure the young cubs had the best chance of catching fish.
Witton Castle Lakes has fished very well this week with superb top of the water action. A total of 104 anglers caught 418 fish for an excellent 4 fish average. The lakes have produced some good fish, the best a 12lb blue caught by Mr. H.Hanlon, Mr J.Allaker caught a 8 1/2lb brown and a 6 3/4lb rainbow, and Mr.P.Appleby an 8lb brown.
